Touched is exactly the right word to use for this game, it contains a lot of highly enjoyable and addictive mini games, easily suitable for picking up to pass the time while waiting for a bus.
By using the touch screen you can drag, poke and scribble your way through the games, some require a different approach such as blowing in to the microphone .Challenge your friends to see who can stay on top in the high scores. This game is suitable for the whole family even younger children will enjoy this so let your little siblings have a go, ok you don’t have too but it could happen!
This game does lack a complex and exciting storyline but that’s hardly a fault there is a short scene explaining how to play the games on the DS and how Wario found the DS. However this is easily skipped so you don’t have to listen to it more than once.
This game has so many good points that it’s hard to find anything to moan about, for starters the touch screen makes such a change from pressing buttons and making use of the microphone is unique and makes you feel more involved in the games.
The mini games themselves need a mention as there is such a variety of stupid things to do from picking noses to putting out fires in an unconventional way and even building a snowman, this is just the tip of the iceberg there are more than 180 different games so it’s going to take sometime before you get bored. The only down side to the mini games is that they swap and change at such a frantic pace it’s not exactly always clear what you are supposed to be doing. Mini games are also occasionally repeated when you play them in sequence.
Of course no review would be complete without talking about the crazy characters, you have your classics Wario and his super-ego Wario-man (brought on by a weird looking garlic bulb!!) , but you also have the gothic Ashley, disco Jimmy and the terrible twins Kat and Ana and loads more. If you have a particular game that troubles you, tap on albums and you can practice just one game. But there are some bad points, some of the games are very easy and the more experienced gamers will find this boring as you can not change the difficulty level. Another questionable feature is the collection of toys you can win, this may sound good but many of the toys are pointless and after a few seconds fail to excite even a child and would certainly bore an adult.
The graphics on the other hand are colourful and portray a real sense of fun. The characters move independently around the screen when not in game mode, their movements are very smooth and even have shadows. It’s the use of colour that make this games graphics stand out, admittedly some of the games are crude in there design but this is because of style not quality. Whereas most of the game has been well designed visually adding in facial expressions along with other details that most would over look such as in Ashley’s game the pumpkins ( number of lives) actually show relief if you win a game.
The sound effects for the games will give you a chuckle but the loony toon like music will certainly get on your nerves after 10 minutes but at least you can turn down the volume, but this means you can’t hear the sound effects either. Still as the music gets faster so do the games and soon your heart will be racing along with it, they certainly used the music well and it’s a shame its so limited as all the music sounds much the same.
In conclusion this game would make a great starting place for many new gamers but also be a valued addition to a more experienced gamer and certainly a good investment for family fun. To anyone who wants an easy to pick up and put down game then this is the one to go for, however for gamers who prefer a storyline and purpose to playing this isn’t for you. It is defiantly worth the price but if you can stand to wait then get it for less after all everyone loves a bargain. Although this game does have its bad points it is still enjoyable to play and is just as good as other Mario or Wario games.
