Chromatic Games has made a U-turn today and put its latest tower defence game, Dungeon Defenders: Awakened in to early access on Steam after initially saying it was avoiding the program.
The move comes after receiving feedback from a closed beta that although billed as a success, meant they felt the game needed more work. As a result, the studio saw early access as the best route to reach that "100% state as soon as possible".
Dungeon Defenders: Awakened sends you on a time-travelling quest to protect Etheria, with all new levels and re-imagined favourites from the original game. There are four character classes to use, Squire, Huntress, Apprentice, and Monk as you battles waves of orcs, dark elves, goblins, and bosses Players will be able to use a range of blockade, towers and traps in order to keep the precious Etheria crystals safe. At the start of early access, the game will launch with 12 maps, four difficulty settings, four playable characters, 12 pets and additional game modes.
"We're excited to begin sharing Dungeon Defenders: Awakened with the world today on Steam Early Access," said Augi Lye, CEO, Chromatic Games. “We can’t wait to continue engaging with our awesome community and implement their feedback over the next couple of months as we continue to refine Awakened and make it the greatest Dungeon Defenders experience possible for the 1.0 release for Nintendo Switch and PC in Q2 2020.”
