Bethesda has revealed that the upcoming Wastelanders update for Fallout 76 will maintain the games original story in a Q&A posted on the
Fallout website.
Asked if the Wasterlanders story will override the base game, the reply was "No. We’ve worked to weave the new Wastelanders story into what’s already there in the base game. New characters will still be able to complete all base game content in addition to the new quests. Also, some of what you accomplished in the base game story will have a role to play in Wastelanders."
The Q&A also revealed that balance changes won’t feature in the update, but are part of future plans for Fallout 76. Bethesda also revealed they are now able to deal with cheats and exploits quicker then before, and without taking the game offline. More features to secure the game are also still to come.
Nukes will also still be able to be deployed, despite the addition of the Crater and Foundation settlements with Bethesda saying, "You can definitely still launch nukes in Wastelanders. This isn’t the Raiders’ or the Settlers’ first rodeo, either. They will jump into their own hazmat suits to protect themselves from radiation."
